It’s SPRING!!

New Contact for SubFinder

Effective Monday, February 8th, Tracy O’Keefe and Diana Heidelberg in Human Resources will be taking over SubFinder. They will also be your point of contact for any substitute issues or questions you may have.
I will be moving back into the Instruction Department so I will no longer be the point of contact in the substitute office.
Thanks for all you do for Campbell County Schools. I have enjoyed working with each and everyone of you these past 10.5 years.
Sincerely,
Marion Kilmer
SubFinder on Caller ID
CRS Advanced Technology sent me notification for substitutes when receiving calls from SubFinder. Please read the following:
In our commitment to advance with technology, we are in the process of updating our telephone system. We are converting the traditional analog telephone lines to a new and improved digital system that will increase clarity and improve sound quality.
Substitutes will now see the CRS Advanced Technology phone number, 800.782.3463, as the caller identification when receiving calls from the SubFinder system.
Introducing…the Bus Stop!
(This website is courtesy of the Substitute Teaching Institute)
Dear Substitute Teachers,
Warning: The following information is extremely exciting, please read with caution!
After a lot of work, brainstorming, and Diet Coke’s, it’s done… The Bus Stop is up and running!
The Bus Stop is a new blog by STEDI.org. It is meant as a gathering place for substitute teachers who enjoy teaching and have a positive attitude about various aspects of the classroom. The Bus Stop will be one of the best places for your comments, insights, and fun stories! The articles on The Bus Stop will be short, sweet, and to the point. Most of them will be slightly humorous approaches to classroom management and professionalism, because as Dr. Seuss once said: “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.” The Bus Stop is a great place for you to have a good time discussing with others the skills needed to be a great substitute teacher.
So here it is, your official invitation to stop by The Bus Stop!

Professionalism when Subbing
Presenting yourself in a mature and professional manner is an important part of being a successful substitute teacher. The level of professionalism you present will play a big role in how you are perceived and treated by students and school staff. Consider how you measure up in the following areas:
CONDUCT
Show professional courtesy and respect for school staff and students. In many classrooms you will have access to students, and sometimes teachers, personal information. Do not seek out information you do not need to know. Keep what you do know confidential and share it only as needed with administrators and/or other teachers. Avoid gossip and refrain from talking about school staff and students with friends or family members. At the end of the day be sure to leave a report for the permanent teacher and thank any staff members who have helped you throughout the day.
LANGUAGE
Strive to be respectful and positive as you speak both in front of the class and in casual conversations. Address and refer to teachers and other school staff as Mr., Mrs., Ms., and insist that students use such titles when addressing you, regardless of how they may know and address you outside the school setting. Avoid swearing and the use of crude terms or slang phrases. Remember, if you aren’t going to say something nice, it may be best not to say anything at all.
By dressing appropriately, being courteous and respectful of other teachers and staff, and using proper language, you are increasing the likelihood of being treated like a professional.

Safe Schools Training Reminder
For those substitutes that received a letter to complete the Blood Borne Pathogens training via Safe Schools, this is a reminder that you have two days left to complete the training. The training needs to be completed by January 16th. If the training is not completed within the 30-day time frame, you will be restricted on SubFinder from receiving any further sub jobs. Once it is completed, we will reactivate you back on the list.
If you have any questions or problems accessing the training, please let me know.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Blood Borne Pathogens Training

Most of you will be receiving or should have received a notice to complete the online Blood Borne Pathogens training. This training was initially given to you upon your new hire orientation when you came aboard as a substitute teacher for our district.
This is an OSHA mandated training and every school employee must complete this training every school year. Some of you may have completed this towards the latter part of the 08-09 school year, but we are now asking everyone to complete this for the 2009-2010 school year. Once you complete this, I won’t be sending notices again until the next school year.
You have 30 days to complete the training. If you have not completed the training within that time period, I will have to restrict you from receiving any further sub calls until it is complete.
Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate all you do.
Happy Holidays!
Marion Kilmer
